MAMARONECK HISTORY

Some of my research and projects

On September 23, 1661, upon a flat rock at the mouth of the Mamaroneck River, John Richbell, Merchant Trader, purchased three necks of land from Wappaquewam and Mahatahan, two Weckquaesgeek sachems.

This book tells the story, beginning with a smugglers's compact in 1657 past John's death in 1684, and ending with his wife Ann's death in 1701.

Employing transcripts of contemporary documents, and commentaries by brilliant historians, Fellows shares with the readers a vivid, engaging story of Mamaroneck's beginning.

The single best, most complete, up-to-date, myth-busting book on John Richbell and the founding of Mamaroneck, NY.
